Fractional CTO/CPO — Technology Strategy & Commercialisation
Ryan is an electrical and electronic engineer who began his career as a semiconductor market analyst at IMS Research, later IHS, where over a decade he built one of the industry’s leading wireless-power research practices and led international analyst teams to around 64% year-on-year revenue growth. He has worked with Aircharge for eleven years, progressing from commercial development to CTO and Managing Director, and now serves on its board as a Non-Executive Director. There he helped lead the evolution of a wireless-charging hardware business into an international physical-digital platform spanning hardware, SaaS, IoT and data, deployed across 4,500+ venues in 45+ countries with major global hospitality, QSR and technology brands.
He also represented Aircharge in the Wireless Power Consortium as Chair of its Infrastructure Applications Group and a member of its Steering Group. As COO and Head of Consulting at SAR Insight & Consulting, he led the creation of DATAportl, transforming 15 years of proprietary market intelligence into a data and SaaS platform as generative AI reshaped how customers consume research.
Since 2024 he has run Integral Strategies, working with founders and leadership teams on technology and product strategy, 0→1 product development, commercialisation and strategic partnerships, and serves as a panel CTO with CTO Grand Rounds. He holds a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Loughborough University, an MBA with Distinction from the University of Exeter, and is a Chartered Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
My strongest contribution is where a founder or leadership team needs someone who can connect technology, product, market opportunity, commercial value and execution, and help turn that into clear decisions and a practical path forward.
Good
match for
Founders and leadership teams with a technically complex opportunity who need to turn it into a clear product, commercial proposition and executable route to market. Especially strong where the answer isn’t obvious at the outset: choosing which market or use case to pursue first, taking a prototype to a manufacturable and certified product, building a business model around connected hardware, software and data, or rethinking strategy when a technology shift disrupts the business. Particularly relevant in B2B2C environments where technology, enterprise deployment and the end-user experience need to work together. A senior bridge between engineering, product, commercial teams, partners, investors and the board, working through existing teams and specialist partners rather than as a hands-on software engineering CTO.

When to bring us in
Typical decisions
The critical technology decisions leaders face when delivery, investment or product direction is at risk. How do we turn our prototype into a viable commercial product?
We have several possible product directions - where should we invest?
How big and attractive is this market before we commit product or investment resources?
How can our hardware business create more value through software, data, services or recurring revenue?
What should we build internally, and what should we source, license or deliver through partners?
How do we explain our technology’s value in customer and business terms?
How do we turn this opportunity into a credible commercial model, investment case and investor narrative?
How do we take a product through manufacturing, certification and international launch?
A technology shift is disrupting our market - what does it mean for our product, data and business model?
Examples
At Aircharge, led the hardware and software product roadmap as CTO and helped evolve the business from standalone wireless-charging hardware into a connected platform combining IoT, software, digital engagement and data, deployed across 4,500+ venues in 45+ countries with major global hospitality, QSR and technology brands
Led a 0→1 wireless-charging product for a global MedTech client from requirements and product definition through development, manufacturing partner coordination, testing and international certification to scaled international production
Led the strategy and investment case for DATAportl, bringing together 2M+ data points, 3,000+ brands and 200+ markets into a scalable data and SaaS platform, and repositioned the business towards proprietary datasets, subscriptions and decision support as generative AI disrupted traditional research
Built and led a wireless-power and power-technologies research practice delivering around 64% year-on-year revenue growth, with forecasts used by global semiconductor and electronics companies to shape product strategy, market entry and investment decisions
Chaired the Infrastructure Applications Group of the Wireless Power Consortium and sat on its Steering Group, working across global technology companies, semiconductor businesses and device manufacturers to support the development and adoption of wireless-power technologies
